Big thanks to all who expressed interest in this giveaway!
At this time, the contest is closed.
Jessica from NH was chosen by random.org as the winner, she’s been notified, and her Cat in the Hat prize pack is on its way!
Do you know that next week is? Next Wednesday, to be exact?
It’s NEA’s Read Across America Day–a day set aside to celebrate the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel and a day when people pledge to read, celebrate literacy, and get excited about books and reading.
To prepare for next week’s festivities (and there are many!), this week’s New For Us Friday involved us viewing a few new episodes of PBS’s The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That and having a little “Cat in the Hat Viewing Party” of our very own.
The super-exciting part is that our friends at PBS have an awesome Cat in the Hat Fun Pack for one teach mama reader–one person will receive two huge Cats in the Hat top hats and a 5-pack of Cat in the Hat books! You can bring the Dr. Seuss love home or share it with your friends or favorite teacher–how fun!?
Here’s the skinny:
- The Cat in the Hat Party: Our early-morning Cat in the Hat party was small, but it was rockin’ nonetheless. We donned our Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That hats, and got viewing!
By the end, our little ones were singing the theme song: We’re going to go-go-go-go on an adventure. . . ! and they did a whole lot of giggling at certain parts that will have to stay under wraps until the rest of the world gets to enjoy these episodes, when they air during PBS’s 2-hour marathon of The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That next Wednesday, March 2–Read Across America Day.
The new episodes, “Incredible Journey/ Bamboozled” and “Teeny Weeny Adventure/ I See Seeds” were sure tops in our book.
After watching, doing a little bit of dancin’, and singing’ their songs, our party moved onto treats, which are always a hit for little ones at a par-tay. Any guesses as to our cupcake inspiration? The Cat in the Hat, of course!
If you realllly use your Dr. Seuss inspired imagination, you can clearly see that these are none other than the Cat’s hat-cupcakes. Right? C’mon, humor me. . .
the Cat in the Hat hats . . . well, almost. . .
I split some biggie pink and white marshmallows and stuck a toothpick inside to keep them together. Then I plopped one on top of a white-iced cupcake, and we were ready to rock out, Cat in the Hat style in a little pre-celebration for Theodor Seuss Geisel’s big day!
Talk about a really fun new-for-us something this week!

The cat in the hat is fun to read! I love how naughty he can be but it all seems ok in a rhyme!
Brandy
We’ve watched these shows on PBS and they are pretty informative. And I almost bought the book “The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Maps” at Wal-mart today. We started our Dr. Seuss unit here at home last week because I had so much I wanted to fit in and one week is not enough! This would be the best!
My favorite thing about this new Cat in the Hat is that he is full of science information. My favorite thing about the original Cat in the Hat is that he reminds me of my children. They make big messes, but are always willing to clean it all back up!
Tabathia B
I love how he has the ability to draw out children in his books and with his books by showing them how to have fun and his rhyming skills

Michelle
the cat and the hat was a favorite of mine as a kid and I love being able to share the books with my kids now. My mom even saved all my old favorites. When my son was born she signed him up for the book club and he got 2 books in the mail each month to build his own collection. We absolutely LOVE the new PBS series. My son loves science and loves the Cat so it’s a great combination. Our family car is now called the ‘thingamagir’!!

As a kindergarten teacher, I just LOVE reading The Cat in the Hat to my class! We all enjoy his naughty antics and the grumpy fish! We are planning lots of fun activities on Wednesday and are beginning a Dr. Seuss author study for the month of March. Thanks for sharing the super cute cupcake idea!
Sara M
As a reading specialist, I absolutely LOVE the rhythm and rhyme in ALL Dr. Seuss books. Now that I am a Stay-at-Home Mama, I love sharing these books with my 18m old. They are perfect for even a squirmy toddler. We’d love to win!
Amanda Plum
We love The Cat in the Hat in my first grade class, as well as at home with my four year old! The rhymes, silly names, and fun to read books make him a favorite!

The Cat in the Hat show has become a new favorite of my youngest son on PBS, the rhyming and the silly stories, that once in a while get him giggling. Please put us in for an entry! Can’t wait for the ideas for next week!
Sarah
This new show is so much fun! I love the language in The Cat in the Hat, how Dr. Seuss makes up his own words to get rhymes to work!
morninglightmama
What’s not to like?? The rhyming fun makes for FABULOUS read alouds!
Thanks for the opportunity!
Lauren
My son loves this show. I’m glad there will be more new shows next week! We would be so excited to win.
LJ
My 5 and 3 year olds love The Cat and The Hat. It is fun to hear them try to do their own rhyming!
Jackie
I love how the cat makes up words and places. My two year old has already started copying this. He told me that a handle in our van that flips up and down was called a flip-ma-yah.
Ps. I think your cupcakes are pretty darn cute!
Ticia
What’s not to love about Cat in the Hat? Several of the episodes have been great reinforcement of our science.
As to the books? “Too wet to go out…..”
RaisingZ
We kicked off our DR. Suess event yesterday, couldn’t wait! I introduced my son to the Seusville website. Love it all!
Christy
This is so fun! 🙂 We will be celebrating with green eggs and ham and a cat in the hat cake. 🙂 I love how the cat in the hat knows something about everything, and so do my kids! 🙂
Janelle
We love Dr. Seuss books and cartoon at our house. My kindergartener loves to read us his books (especially put me in the zoo and apples up on top) and our younger child loves the silly things the characters do in the books. I also use the books in my tutoring sessions to show rhyming and other great phonics and reading readiness skills.
Yvonnee
Thanks for your blog. I love your ideas and strategies. I would love to be a part of this contest.

Love the rhymes, and memorizing sections! Great to read aloud. Thanks for the chance to win.
Kelly
We love, love The Cat in the Hat! They are just such fun books and are probably one of the first books my kids started to “read” whether or not actually from reading or memorization — they all are so much fun!! One of my very favorites is Oh the Places You’ll Go!
Might have to steal your cupcake idea!
Thanks for sharing!!
MichelleH
We love The Cat in the Hat. My daughter just laughs at him when he ‘knows’ something, but is wrong. One day the show was coming on and I said ‘hey, he knows a lot about that’ and she said ‘weeellll, he THINKS he does’. My older boys still love the book and think it’s hilarious that he gets the kids to do everything by saying ‘your mother won’t mind’.
Dana
You know… I was not a (wait for it…) big fan of dr Seuss when b was learning to read-she seemed to just ‘get it’–no instruction needed. J is a different story though–he needs the simple rhyme repetition of dr Seuss-fun and easy to read def not boring or repetitive! So I guess that what I like! Also–wondering if you’d consider doing a linky for nfuf? 🙂
amy
Dana. I know exactly what you mean! Every kid reacts to Dr. Seuss differently, I’ve found.
Would LOVE to do a linky for nfuf. Super idea–I’ll start next week. I’ve never used the Mr. Linky before–so it’ll be another something new for me!–love it!
Kelly
Thanks for the chance to win! The Cat in the Hat has inspired my 3 year old to become a little rhyming tike! We love that cat!!
Katie
I love the Cat and the Hat for its rhymes and overall fun!
Caterina
I loved Dr. Seuss as a child and love that my children are enjoying these books now. We love how funny it feels to say all the silly words. Would love to have a collection of our own. Thanks for this great giveaway!

I love Dr Suess’ rhymes. = )

The Cat in the Hat is a great book for all ages and all time. It is fun to imagine being The Cat. The rhymes make it a go to book for early readers and unlike some sight word books it is never boring.

We love the Cat in the Hat- he is an icon for encouraging kids to read. I also love how the PBS show mixes the rhyming and science. I love Dr. Seuss’ love for literacy so much that it inspired me to blog about children’s books, crafts and activities. My husband calls me ‘obSEUSSed’ so that is my blog: http://www.obSEUSSed.com.

I love that my boys love the Cat in the Hat… and anything else Dr. Seuss! We have several Seuss books at home but often when we’re at Barnes and Noble the boys pick a new Seuss we haven’t yet read and bring it to me to read to them. 🙂
Kristin
We just love how silly the Cat in the Hat characters are.

Or family loves Dr. Seuss books – they have such a great rhythm and rhyme that they are fun not only to listen to but also to read! I love the intro to science that the PBS show provides for preschoolers too.

I LOVE Dr. Seuss and the Cat in the Hat. He is my favorite author. All of his books are fun to read with kids and it helps them sound out words because he makes up so many crazy names! Thing 1 and Thing 2 are adorable. I love all of the mischief they get into. I love the illustrations. They are fairly simple compared to a lot of other books, but they really pop. I am already reading Dr. Seuss books to this baby and he/she isn’t even born yet!

I love that Cat in the Hat uses less than 300 commonly used 1st grade words! I love that Green Eggs and Ham uses even less. These books are great for early readers and I would LOVE to make our collection larger 😀 Thank you for this wonderful giveaway!!
Cheryl
I love the Cat in the Hat and the Cat in the Hat Comes Back books. When my kids and I travel to see Grandma each summer, these are the first 2 books they search for to read. We now have our own copies as well. Dr. Seuss books are so entertaining and I loved them so much as a kid. Now that I have children of my own, its great to pass on these treasures to them.

What we love about the original Cat in the Hat is that he is so lovable, even though he creates such a mess of things. We also love all the rhymes in the book!
Elaine
I love the messes the Cat makes. Fantastic giveaway!

I will forever love Dr. Seuss books as they are the first for which my kids were able to fill in the line endings because they are so fun to remember: “Big F, little f, what begins with F?…..Four fluffy feathers on a fiffer-feffer-feff”!!!
Stacey
Cat in the Hat was the first book I remember reading all by myself! I will always have a special place for it in my heart and have shared Dr. Suess’s stories with my kids since before they were born!
