Thank you to the many readers who entered this giveaway. It is now closed, and the winner, lucky #15 has been notified! (Shhhh, but keep your eyes open for another fabulous giveaway from LeapFrog in the next few weeks!
This quickie New For Us Friday involves some fab, new DVD’s from our friends over at LeapFrog! And they’ve given me the opportunity to give a set of two away to one teach mama reader. Woo-hoo!
Just in time for spring, when preschool’s out and we really need to work hard to sneak in some learning, these DVD’s will arrive and save the day!
As I’ve said before, we work hard over here to limit screen time and make sure our kiddos view quality programming, so having these DVD’s from LeapFrog–a company I have grown to respect and trust, is a win-win in my book.
Here’s the skinny:
- LeapFrog DVD’s — The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park & Numbers Ahoy: Really, my kids will watch just about anything, but when they specifically request to watch ‘that LeapFrog numbers DVD’ or ‘the LeapFrog letters one’, I’m a pretty happy mama.
Every so often, Owen or Cora will ask to watch one after their rest time–when it’s their day–and they genuinely love them. They sing the songs–very catchy ones, I may add–when they’re playing, and I love it because they’re songs about letters and numbers. It makes my teacher heart a-flutter.
The DVD’s, straight from LeapFrog:
The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park (Ages 3-6): When their firefly friend, Edison, takes Tad, Lily and Scout to the place of his childhood dreams, the gang is shocked to discover that Alistair Alphabelly’s Amazing Amusement Park is… closed! To make matters worse, Edison has gotten himself stuck atop the Fantastical Ferris Wheel. The only way to save him is to turn on the rides in the park with the magic of the alphabet. Now the children must learn all of the letters, big and small, to save their friend, save the day and perhaps even meet the rhyme master himself, Alistair Alphabelly!
Numbers Ahoy (Ages 3-6): Tad and Lily need a little number sense to help them get through a complicated game. So their magical firefly friend, Edison, takes them on a fantastical journey under the sea! When a pirate mistakenly captures their cute puppy pal Scout, they must use their new understanding of counting, grouping and estimating to rescue him. Join them as they navigate the deep and face foes such as sharks, crab henchmen—even Pirate Pythagoras himself—and begin to see numbers in a whole new way!
Here’s what we love about the LeapFrog DVD’s:
- the quality of the animation, story, and content is incredibly-high;
- the age range–3-6 years old/ 2-5 years old–is totally accurate. Both Cora (4 yrs) and Owen (5 yrs) are really engaged when watching;
- the length of each show is perfect–about 30 minutes for each DVD is all kids need;
- the variety of math skills covered in Numbers Ahoy is fab–number recognition, counting, and estimation;
- the variety of literacy skills covered in The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park is perfect—the alphabet, upper and lowercase letters, and rhyming;
- the extras on the DVD’s–LeapFrog’s not stopping at one 30 minute show–they give us a few extra features including a curriculum commentary for parents;
- the price–$14.98 each is not too high in my book;
- the songs are actually really catchy, really fun, and really easy for kids to learn.
We wish:
- that the songs weren’t so darn catchy–it’s embarrassing to sing these songs at the grocery store or when your kids aren’t around;
- that these shows might someday be adapted for tv–maybe? please?

This contest ends on Friday, April 29, 2011 at midnight ET and is open to US residents only.
fyi: Many thanks to our friends at LeapFrog for providing us with two of the mentioned DVD’s for Maddy, Owen, and Cora to try. This is an unsponsored post, and my opinions are all my own, influenced only by my three little ones. I chose to write about these DVD’s and facilitate this giveaway because I liked the product that much. LeapFrog is providing one teach mama reader with two free DVD’s.
We love Leapfrog DVDs (we own three already), and my 5yo is especially fond of the puppy that is featured in these two new DVDs!
I both like you on facebook and subscribe =)
We don’t have a TV so we love DVD’s and my little ones love the other leap frog video’s. We would love to have these also!
I subscribe!
Oh, I tweeted this and then I realized it was only open to US Residents 🙁 Shame!
I have two sons, both too little for these right now, but I am working hard at raising them to be bilingual in English and Japanese (might introduce a 3rd language later on) and we live in Japan. I need all the resources I can get!! My older son has My Pal Scout and the fridge phonics magnet set- he loves both!!!!!!! Leapfrog seems to be a great company!
Maybe one of your future competitions could be open worldwide but I understand that this makes it hard for you and your sponsors I guess.
Lulu–I am SO sorry! I do wish it could be open to everyone–and perhaps I’ll request that as a standard for future giveaways. My apologies, my friend!
My daughter learned her letter sounds while watching one of these on a long trip. I would love to win them to give away as a birthday present to her little friend, who is just approaching the age when he would love them!
B learns SO much from Leapfrog dvds! Thanks for the chance to win! [email protected]
My girls (5 and 3) have gotten used to our schedule during the school year. We have really cut down the amount of time the television is on in our house. When they do get t.v. time, I love for it to be something fun, educational, and catchy… so the LeapFrog DVDs would fit perfectly. This is be especially helpful since school will soon be out and I am sure the adjustment will be hard. We love everything LeapFrog so I am certain they will love these DVDs also.
I subscribe, and Liked on Facebook!
Thanks!
My daughter loves LeapFrog DVDs as well. Those songs are catchy and that’s how we learn things around here. Put it in a song and a learning we go.
I subscribe to teach mama in my google reader.
I’d love to win these DVDs! The only tv my 19 m old watches are the Signing Time Videos and her vocabulary has grown so much from them. Although she isn’t getting tired of them yet, I think she has learned all that they have to offer and I’d love for her to have something else educational to watch (besides the occasional Elmo of course!).
I also follow you on facebook!
We would love a chance to win these. My daughter is working on her lowercase letter recognition.
I like you on facebook.
We bought the leapster explorer for our daughter for Christmas (per your reviews) and downloaded some of the videos onto it. My kids LOVE watching them. I was just wishing for them to make more and VOILA…here it is!
These would be perfect for our family. We have a 4 year old and an almost 3 year old that would greatly benefit from watching them from time to time.
My girls, 3 and 4 yo, LOVE Leapfrog . . . . and mommy loves it too!
I have 1, 3, and 6yo tv addicts! Getting some learning through videos is how we roll around here. 🙂
I like you on FB! I used to subscribe but I don’t like the abbreviated posts. 🙁
We love Leap Frog DVDs, and they have really helped my daughter with learning. I would love to add these to our collection for just that reason.
Love the Leap Frog DVDs. A good learning tool.
Love Leap Frog – such a great addition to letter study
we love the Leapfrog videos–I had already put these on our wish list.
We have a couple Leapfrog videos already…and sometimes we get them from the library…we love them! I would use them to help my daughter with literacy and speech…something we’re always working on (she is 3 and has DS).
I like you on FB
And I subscribe. 🙂
We’d love to have these! Finn is super into counting and letters/spelling right now. We’re a bit stalled out on making the lowercase letters stick and could use some fresh fun material. Plus, they just sound good.
We’d love to have these DVDs at our house! Letter Factory and Math Circus are my 3 year-old’s favorite videos! Her 7 month old brother will be following in her footsteps, as he already turns his head when he hears the cathcy songs! The B says /b/, the B says /b/. Every letter makes a sound! The B says /b/!
We just returned these to the library after renewing to the maximum day. My kids really loved these two dvds. My 2 1/2 was signing all the songs. We would love to win this. They would continue to learn so much. These dvds stand the test of time and are definite ones to own.
Thanks so much,
Caterina

We’ve got these, but if I win, I’d be super excited to introduce a friend to leapfrog videos! We started with Letter Factory and were hooked. My son absolutely loves Numbers Ahoy! which is great because getting him to learn numbers has been a chore lately.
