Shut UP.  Any Stacey and Clinton fans out there?

I’m SO not kidding, but this New For Us Friday is so totally random and off-the-charts, it’s not even funny. That’s why I had to start a NEW weekly New For Us Friday link up this very week because I sincerely doubt that NFUF’s will ever be quite so exciting.

So if you have tried something new, out-of-the-ordinary, and exciting with your crew–or solo–link up! Let’s do it. Let’s inspire others to step out of their comfort zones a bit and to get their little ones into the habit of doing the same.

It’s good for everyone–moms, dads, grandparents, teachers, kids, pets–everyone.  Sure, habit is great and people ultimately thrive on consistency.  But really, if your kid won’t eat anything but pb & j for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, then it’s time to mix it up a bit.

Here’s why this NFUF is so crazy. . .

  • What Not To Wear: My friend Amanda was ambushed by Stacey and Clinton of TLC’s What Not To Wear. Seriously. Back in the fall.  And her reveal party was in December and they just aired her show on TLC last Tuesday.

my sis totally plays it cool with clinton

So this week, this week, my friends, this little teach mama was on tv.  Craaa-zy.

I’m not even kidding.

Amanda writes an awesomely, awesome, totally hysterical blog, Parenting BY Dummies, and she’s also the most excellent photographer I’ve ever met. She took photos of my family last spring, and she honestly made Maddy, Owen, and Cora look like little, gorgeous, adorable, perfect sweets.  She’s so good with kids it’s nuts; everyone was comfortable, smiling, and happy.  She even took pictures of Brady.

Amanda’s bff, Vanessa, nominated her way back when and then several of our local blogging buddies (okay, and two of my sisters) were there for her ‘ambush at the Newseum here in DC’: Justice Fergie (of Justice Fergie and Mama Law), Janine (of Twofer Mom), Devra (of Parentopia), Michele (of Scraps of My Geek Life), Angie (of Seriously a Homemaker), Roo (of Nice Girl Notes).

The whole thing was completely exciting and anxiety-producing at the same time–too many secrets, too much uncertainty, and too many unknowns for this mama–but in the end, it all worked out.  Everyone had fun, and Amanda had a blast in NYC, hanging with Stacey and Clinton and everyone cool on WNTW.

If you want the whole story along with an interview with Clinton, read my friend Devra’s post at BlogHer.

The reveal party proved to be completely amazing.  Watching the producers stress out. . .

We were good and patient listeners,

. . . waiting for instructions from the producers. . .

. . . and chatting with Angie and Roo--two really awesome gals.

my pal, Justice Fergie, and me

(We were so calm, cool, and collected–not all over-excited, giddy, or anxious about Amanda’s reveal.)

And then, after hours of waiting–seeing Amanda’s family and friends’ reactions was worth a million bucks.

Her three little boys wouldn’t let go of her legs. Her husband couldn’t stop staring.  They missed Amanda like crazy and couldn’t believe their eyes.

Amanda, already gorgeous but self-admittedly needing more attention on herself–looked fab.

Please do head to the What Not to Wear site to see a clip of Amanda and the show, but do try to catch a re-run of the show.  It’s a seriously awesome episode with (and I’m so biased but whatever) a very important message for all parents.

And, if you look really, really closely at the ambush and at the reveal, you’ll see some funny faces.

Okay, so for my first-ever (official!) link-up, thanks to Dana (of From the Land of Pleasant Living) all you need to do is link up to a post where you or your family tries something new, out-of-the-ordinary, or exciting. Our goal for New For Us Fridays is to step out of our comfort zones a bit and to get our little ones into the habit of doing the same.

I watched the video from the link above and WOW! She’s beautiful! I wish they’d come to my house. Hopefully, I’ll catch a rerun of the show and see you too. Thanks for sharing this. I bet it was soooo much fun! And I’m going to check out her blog, which I had never heard of before.

Hello, Teacher Wish List.

You are welcome here. In fact, we are incredibly glad that you’ve made your way into our culture.

You’re like the Wedding Registry or Baby Registry–but better.

You are a dream because you are the list that gives and gives and gives. You’re not full of weird kitchen appliances or ugly China patterns or tiny baby Air Jordans. You are made of books, pens, pencils, journals, math manipulatives, bulletin board letters, lab goggles, staplers, and hole punchers.

You are helping to equip and educate the youth of the world and are taking a tiny bit of stress off of the shoulders of our educators. And we all know that our educators–especially in the last few years–have been stretched to the absolute max. They are tired, worn down, and stepped on. They’re pushed and pulled every which way and are expected to do the job of 27 different people.

What an amazing thing you are, you little Classroom Wish List! Just a simple Amazon Wish List, you let us all feel like we are helping in a teeny way, and we thank you.

We hope you never, ever leave and that you’re here to stay.

Sincerely,

Everyone
