the learning match: connecting families with educators

home / family life / the learning match: connecting families with educators

The Learning Match simply connects families with educators.

That’s it.

In this crazy, uncertain time we are all in, we all need help.

So many of my friends, neighbors, and family members are waving the white flag. They are maxed out trying to parent, work, and teach from home, and they’re about to lose it.

The more people I talk to, the more I am asked:

  • Can I help their kids with schoolwork?
  • Would I be able to “coach” the parents in how to teach from home?
  • Do I know any good tutors?
  • Might I be able to just Facetime or Zoom weekly with their kids to make sure they’re doing the work they need to?
  • What is the secret to supporting kids with school and parenting and working from home–at the same time?
  • How do we get kids into a school-at-home routine?
  • What should parents do in order to maintain their sanity this fall?
  • Who can I recommend to help their family — because they’re drowning quickly?

So when my pal Julie McMinn told me about The Learning Match, a business she was starting along with Amy Lundy (who I knew as the creator of Mother of All Baby Showers), it was clear that the stars were aligned.

It was clear to me that The Learning Match was something I wanted to be a part of.

What is The Learning Match?

The Learning Match is a database that connects trusted, qualified and experienced educators to families. Parents join to connect with hundreds of educators who can support their childโ€™s learning before, during or after school.

Here’s why I feel so strongly about The Learning Match:

5 Reasons to Love The Learning Match: Connecting Families with Educators

1.) The Learning Match makes life easier for families.

The Learning Match takes the stress out of searching for tutors, caregivers, educational coachesโ€”virtual or face-to-faceโ€”whatever your family needs!

With a few clicks, a family can locate an educator who:

  • teaches a subject they need;
  • lives in their community;
  • wants to tutor students virtually;
  • can support them in any way they need!

2.) The Learning Match makes life easier for educators.

The Learning Match allows educators to connect with families and to help them in any way they can–on their own time.

No longer do educators have to search the web for teaching opportunities.

Educators can use The Learning Match for:

  • finding students to tutor, either in person or virtually;
  • connecting with families who are searching for a pod;
  • sharing their profile and getting their name out in the field;
  • locating other educators to add to their PLN;
  • so much more!

3.) The Learning Match is always free for educators.

The Learning Match is always free for educators because we understand how incredible and amazing their job is and how hard they work.

We want educators to very easily connect with families, work with students, and share their expertise. Really, this kind of a one-stop shop for qualified educators who are willing to help families just makes sense!

4.) The Learning Match helps families navigate the sometimes confusing and often changing educational landscape.

Every family views education a bit differently.

Some people have had such a difficult, challenging experience in their own schooling that they feel unable to step in and support their own children.

Some people wish they had a teacher with whom they could meet regularly (in-person or virtually) to help ask questions, seek advice, or find out how to best support their children. They just need a little extra help.

Some families may just want to hire an educator to “coach” them through this tricky time or to be an on-hand teacher to help with each of their students twice a week.

Some students just need a safe, trusted adult with a background in education to check in with them regularly to make sure they’re up to date with work and they understand assignments.

Whatever families need, we’re betting that there’s a qualified educator in our database to help.

5.) The Learning Match is one-of-a-kind and just makes sense.

We feel like we’ve been waiting our whole lives for The Learning Match, and we are pretty sure you’ll feel the same way.

Say goodbye to those cliquey, exclusive Facebook groups, neighborhood chats, or long-lost emails for finding reliable educators to support your family.

Finding educators who want to help families should be easy, and The Learning Match makes it so.

Say goodbye to difficult side jobs, following someone else’s schedule, and trying to figure out how to pay the bills because money from teaching is tight.

Finding families who need and want qualified educators to help them should be easy, and The Learning Match makes it so.

With great sadness, I'm writing to share that my brother-in-law, Jeff Mascott passed away from pancreatic cancer earlier this week--at home, surrounded by family and friends.

The family is very grateful for the community's immeasurable help, encouragement, and prayers over the past several months since Jeff's diagnosis.

Jeff's obituary will run this weekend in the Post:

Today marks the 4th time in 3 weeks that I have had to hang new Kindness Reminders Tear-off Sheets!

Makes my heart ๐Ÿฅฐ!!

Some kids come by every day and give one to a new person. Others take a bunch for the week. One 2nd grade girl comes by evey morning to tell me who she gave hers to the day before.

Every little bit helps, friend. And every interaction matters!
