Thursdays are always busy for us, since on top of managing the normal activities, I do the whole week’s laundry. Only one thing is for certain on Thursdays–everyone will have clean pj’s tonight.
Since today was a wash day, I thought I’d start fresh on my blogging adventure. My goals are still the same and were posted in my first entry. I’ll spare you the dirty details of my attempt to create a more vibrant header (there has GOT to be an easier way!) and go right to how I tried to use today as a learning day for my little ones.
I’ll make it short and sweet for my busy mom (and dad) friends:
- Tracing: I showed Maddy and Owen how to use their Magna Doodles to trick people into believing they are super artists. We put pictures from their coloring books (more simple ones work best) and taped them to the Magna Doodle. They used the Magna Doodle ‘pen’ to trace over the lines on the paper, removed the paper, and voila! they had a masterpiece!
- Chopsticks: After running and burning steam at our local community center’s open gym for preschoolers, I headed to the local market for a few things. Knowing that lunch would be that much more fun with some ex
otic new foods, I picked up a pack of California Rolls and was on my way. My kiddos will eat anything with chopsticks, and they love sushi, so I was sure this would make for a fun mealtime. They have the Combi Learning Chopsticks which I have found are especially suitable for little learners. My 3 yr old uses the yellow helping grip, and my 5 yr old takes it off and feels like a big girl. My youngest, 22 mos, kind of pokes and picks, and with some help, even she can squeeze them to pick up chunks of sushi! And after the sushi was long gone, I cut up their peanut butter & jelly sandwiches so they could use their chopsticks on them. They even ate the crusts.
That’s all for now. I don’t want these to get too long; my goal is to share just a few ways I try to teach my little ones in the every day.
