lego love even for families on the goWe’re huge LEGOยฎ fans over here, lovers of the shapes, the colors, the sets, and the figures. For years now, LEGOsยฎ have been a staple for birthdays, holidays, and special treats.

Only recently have we discovered LEGOยฎ on YouTube — seriously! LEGOยฎ. On YouTube. Woot!

With tons of videos for kids that feed our family’s LEGOยฎ love, and with the help of the fancy YouTube playlist feature, we’ve taken our LEGOยฎ love to a whole new level.

Here’s the skinny. . .

  • LEGOยฎ Love–Even For Families on the Go:ย  The LEGOยฎ Channel houses over 500 LEGOยฎ-related videos, and more are being added each day.

Though I had seen some of the LEGOยฎ City shorts a while back, I had no idea that there were videos featuring Maddy and Cora’s absolute faves–LEGOยฎ Friends! But there was really a ton more.

We found songs, stories, and close-ups of products in every LEGOยฎ product made, from Star Wars to LEGOยฎ City to Super Heroes, but what we especially loved were the short ‘documentary’ type shorts–the Designer Videos. They were right up our sneaky-learning alley.

After watching a few of our fave LEGOยฎ shorts, we rocked it out by making our own LEGOยฎ Playlist.ย  We called it Kids’ Fave LEGOยฎ Songs & Videos. You can take it, view it, let your kids watch it, or make your own.

Why make a playlist on YouTube? What’s the point?

It’s all about giving the kids a safe, mom-vetted option for their viewing pleasure when we need it.

Owen’s stuck at Variety Show practice for an hour after school and he finishes his homework?ย  He can watch a few of his LEGOยฎ faves and I won’t worry.

Maddy and Cora are buying time on the sidelines of Owen’s basketball or soccer practice on a weekend when Mom’s working? LEGOยฎ Playlist.

Kids just want to sit back and relax for a few minutes on a long ride and they’re not feeling games or apps?ย ย LEGOยฎ playlist combines fun and learning–some shows, shorts, and songs, along with some up-close and personal with the LEGOยฎ creators and designers. Cool.

My kids love to play with LEGOsยฎ.ย  Watching the bricks in action takes them to a whole other level.

With a balance of playing with the actual toys–working those fine-motor skills, flexing those creative muscles, and honing those critical thinking skills!–and viewing our LEGOยฎ playlist, I think it’s a pretty cool combination. A nice balance.

Making a LEGOยฎ playlist is super easy–check out the smart and schweeet graphic above, and you’re ready to roll.

  1. Watch videos at http://youtube.com/LEGO
  2. Click Video Options & select Add to Playlist
  3. Log into YouTube
  4. Add videos to existing playlist or create a new one!ย  Easy-peasy!

And that’s it–just a quickie, new-for-us little happy LEGOยฎ discovery that will put a smile on Maddy, Owen, and Cora’s faces–and my husband and mine as well!

fyi: Thank you to LEGO and Technorati for being sponsors. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. All opinions expressed here are my own.

My son loves all things LEGO (as do I!). We love the LEGO shorts. The site is one of the best brand/consumer engagements out there.

Just a quick note… I love this article! (But I found one tiny typo… the plural of lego doesn’t have an apostrophe! )

Thanks, Traci! Totally appreciate you reading and taking the time to give me some feedback (and help!)–I’m a fast-moving, continually multi-tasking, working mom on the go, so any time you notice typos, send them my way! (I always say I could surely use an editor!!) Many, many thanks!

We love Lego, too! What I love the most its the fact that my little ones actually play with the same legos I have played with! ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow! So you have a mom or dad who kept your toys?! AMAZING! That’s the wonderful thing about investing in well-made toys! Your kiddos are so lucky!

Will definitely check these out. Move been trying to get my girls in to Legos because I think it’s good practice in following instructions and because I LOVE Legos. They like receiving them as presents and half-heatedly putting the set together, but there is generally no interest beyond that. Perhaps the videos will stimulate their interest a bit. Thanks !

Love, love, love Legos! My brother passed his collection on to me nearly twenty years ago now…I passed them back to his first son, then his next son, then when my daughter was born they came back to me. Now I have three children with one on the way and a huge tote FULL of Legos. I mean there are little bits and pieces of other sets, little men, accessories, I even found a teeny tiny pair of Lego scuba flippers. I really don’t even know what all I have in that box. Do you have any tips or ideas about how to play with children 3 and up with Legos? Like how to make certain things or tasks they can complete with them? Much thanks from Alabama…

Corey! WOW–how totally cool! Your family has serious LEGO history!! How cool. You know what? I have a post coming down the pipes about how to play with kids–but I never thought about doing something w/ LEGOS and kids. I’ll think about it–and until then, consider sorting (search ‘sorting’ over here) and group by colors, sizes, shapes, etc. The 3 yo’s in your life will LOVE it–and they’ll learn a bit along the way, too!

Lately when I find four leaf clovers, Iโ€™ve been leaving them. ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

So if youโ€™re in Maryland, and you happen upon a lonely, little 4-leafer with very little grass, weeds, or leaves around it, I donโ€™t know WHO tried to set you up for success.

Hi and thank you for your interest in watching my โ€˜de-mystifying dyslexiaโ€™ series.

My name is Amy Mascott, and Iโ€™m a reading specialist and former high school English teacher. Iโ€™m also the creator of teachmama.com where since 2008, Iโ€™ve helped families make meaningful connections with their kids and build bridges between home and school.

As an educator, Iโ€™m always trying to share important informationโ€”bc I really think that when we know better, we do better. This series is part of my final project for a course Iโ€™m taking through Advancement Courses called โ€˜understanding dyslexiaโ€™.

And as a reading teacher, I need to know all I can about this condition. What I realized is that I had a lot to learnโ€”maybe you, as a parent or teacher yourself, can also stand to learn a little bit.

Maybe, like me, youโ€™ve grown up thinking that dyslexia was a condition where people read letters backwardsโ€”b for d or p for g? Maybe you thought, like I did, that if a person was dyslexic, they saw all of the letters jumbled together on the page? Iโ€™m here to tell you that both of those things are untrue.

So if you would like to learn a little about dyslexiaโ€”if you would like for me to โ€˜de-mystify dyslexiaโ€™ for you, then follow along!
