How many of you have recycle bins that are nearly overflowing by the end of the week?
I know ours is, despite all of the recyclables that I ‘rescue’ for various cool and creative learning fun.ย But before I toss anything into the recycle bin, I take off the lid (if there is one), throw it in the dishwasher, and then add it to our lid collection once it’s clean and dry.
And why do I keep lids?ย I keep them because there are about a million and one things to do with lids, things you don’t even realize until you start keeping them, that’s why.
This little Quick Trick will give you part of the skinny–3 ways you can use lids–and I plan to share other ways down the road, in another little video or blog post, on another sunny day.
Here’s the skinny. . .
- Keep. Those. LIDS: I’ve kept lids for years now–since the kids were tiny, so at this point we have tons.
And some lids have letters on one side and others have numbers and even others have foamies stuck to them.ย My kids have used lids for a trillion things, and I’m looking forward to sharing.
For now, check out 3 ways to use those lids!
Thanks so much for watching! Now tell us: How do YOU use lids?
Love the video! I like the color matching idea and I’m going to try that out with Tyson! I read on another blog that when you turn in your bottles for recycling, they don’t recycle the lid. I’m not sure if that is accurate or if it is dependent on your facility but regardless, saving your lids might help save the Earth too!!
Jackie–Thanks so muhc, my friend!! and you and I heard the same thing. . . I wasn’t sure if that was fact or fiction about recycling lids. I’d like to think they’re not recyclable, and I’m doing a MAJOR part in helping Mother Earth. . . ๐
Yeah to you for this great video! I keep telling myself that I am going to start adding video to my blog and then I chicken out! I hope you will be my inspiration ๐ And funny story on the lids… we were at the beach last summer and the town there was organizing a whole collection for bottle lids because it does seem they go to a separate place for recycling and are not in fact recycled if you send them with your bottles ๐ Also, I have never saved lids for projects but am certainly motivated to now!
Stacey!! Do the video–definitely not in my comfort zone, but it’s getting easier!! And THANK YOU for confirming the no-lid recycling!! YAY!!
