backyard adventure begins with “The Never Starting Tales”

Backyard adventure begins with "The Never Starting Tales". Really, it does! "The Never Starting Tales" may sound unusual, but these tales are simply a collection of re-interpreted fairytales that were created to inspire families to spend more time adventure-seeking in their own back yards. These stories explore what might have happened if a character never stepped outdoors to actually begin his or her adventure? What if a character instead stayed inside, glued to that … [Read more...]

summer swim team: an absolute MUST for families

summertime swim team | teachmama.com

Summer swim has been a staple for our family for the last six years. Ever since Maddy joined the pre-team the summer before Kindergarten, we've spent the first seven weeks of summer camped out at the pool in the mornings and have spent our Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings at swim meets and Sunday afternoons at dive meets. We are grateful that our neighborhood pool is within walking distance from our home, and we definitely take advantage of it. But even if your family is not within … [Read more...]

back-to-school deals at staples that families don't want to miss | teachmama.com

This past weekend, Maddy, Owen, Cora, and I did our annual Back-to-School Supply shopping extravaganza only at Staples. But this year was a wee bit different than other years. And? It was an absolute blast. This year, we went to Staples, and we shared our school-supply haul live on Facebook--and we were live on Instagram. If you joined us, thank you. how to teach kids the ABCs: 5 fun ways

how to teach kids the ABCs: 5 fun ways | teachmama.com

Let's face it: the letters of the alphabet are the building blocks of the English language. They are. The ABCs are among the most important things our children will learn when they're young, and the good news is that they're something that families can very easily help children learn. But how should you teach kids the ABCs? Where should you begin and when should you start? What kinds of supplies do you need? How much time do you need? Really, it's pretty simple, friend. … [Read more...]

unplug to play and learn 4 quick and easy ideas teachmama kindercare 2

Guess what? It's time to have our kids unplug. Yep. Right now. Right this very minute. Turn off the television, the tablet, the phone, the laptop, the whatever. Believe it or not, there's a world of fun to be had when kids unplug to play and learn. There's no denying that we are raising kids in a digital age. Everywhere you turn, there's a screen, a swipe, a beep, or a buzz.   That means that it's super important that we, as parents, do what we can to make sure that our kids … [Read more...]

how we are saving for our kids’ college and how you can, too

saving for college what parents need to know teachmama.com 2

When Maddy was born, we received a lot of parenting advice. She needs to sleep with you. . . . and She definitely shouldn't sleep with you. Babies must be nursed exclusively for the first year. . . . . and Babies must have rice cereal by six months. She needs to cry it out on her own so that she doesn't become a spoiled child. . . . . and Babies must be picked up every, single time they cry so that they know they're loved. Some advice was appreciated, and, well. . . some was … [Read more...]

walmart grocery pick-up: grocery shopping made easy

walmart grocery pick-up teachmama.com

I'm a sucker for anything that makes my busy life easier. So when I was asked to try Walmart's new Grocery Pick-up service, you better believe I was game to try it. Grocery shopping is often not only a juggling act with kids in tow, but it's also a huge time suck for me; depending on the time of day, sometimes I'd find myself stuck in the grocery store for up to two hours. Two hours! I can think of 800 things I'd rather be doing than grocery shopping for two hours. Walmart … [Read more...]
